Robert was the middle son of attorney Will E. and Camella (Young) Morris. He graduated from Washington Irving H.S. in Clarksburg and attended West Virginia University. He married Lois E. Thompson in Oakland, MD on Oct. 17, 1925 and began a sales career that ended as vice-president of VanZandt Supply Co. of Huntington. He was a member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge 650 F&AM, BPO Elks Lodge 313 and Riviera Country Club.
He loved to play golf, travel, fish and solve crossword puzzles.
