She was born in Gasconade County, MO., the youngest daughter of Timothy and Rebecca Augusta Pointer Baker. It was not until she married her husband, Morris Shull in Hermann, MO., on July 28, 1947, that she became a resident of Moniteau County. After Morris' demise in 1988, Laverne sold their farm and purchased property in California, MO.

She was a member of the Salem Baptist Church, the Sunday School, and the Women on Mission Group.

A Family Genealogist since 1962, much of Laverne's time was devoted to research and recording. she has proven her lineage back to Colonist ancestor, Johanas Justus Heydt, to become a member of the Mersey Lucas Wood Chapter of the Daughter of the American Colonists. Concentrating on her Revolutionary War Patriot, she established the fact that George Pointer served in the Revolutionary War with George Rogers Clark and His Military Men. This provided proof for her to become a member of the Niangua Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Laverne was proud of both of these achievements.

Much of Laverne's information has been published by renowned publishers. She has complied many book over the years and has promoted preservation of family records and history.

She was a member of the Osage County Historical Society, the Maries County Historical Society and the Moniteau County Historical Society, volunteering time in the latter.

Laverne was the Branson Family Historian, which seemed appropriate, because she was double descendant of the Bransons.

Her ancestors were some of the earliest permanent settlers into what is now Gasconade Co, MO.. Two fourth generation grandfathers, who incidentally were brother-in-laws and of French origin, acquired land from the United States Government in the year 1819. According to records, the Branson families probably came into the area in the late 1820 or very early 1830's.

Great grandfather William Pointer did not become a famous man, however, he left a legend. He settled in an area of which is now the County of Osage, the area became known as Pointer's Creek, and a large cemetery on the farm site was named Pointer's Creek Cemetery. It is well kept and used today.

Laverne completed a Memories Heritage Album plus more, with pictures dating from the 1801 until the present. Laverne's desire in life was to preserve her family's heritage, not only in written records but also in pictures. This is important to future generations.
