John A.C. Boyd of the firm of Singley & Boyd died at his home on Gallatine Avenue, Uniontown, at 1:10 a.m., Wednesday July 16, 1880. Mr. Boyd had not been ill long. He was not a man of robust health but was uncomplaining altho suffering some from several diseases. About a week ago, he was attacked by dysentery which with his other ailments soon brought death. The deceased was born at Mahoning Furnace in Armstrong county, Pa., March 8, 1954. He learned the printers trade and afterward the dry good business. In 1879, he came to Uniontown and embarked in the dry good business as a member of the firm Singley & Boyd and had control of the entire firm's successful business which through him it had established here, his partner, Mr. Singley being absent most of the time engaged in other enterprises. Mr. Boyd married Emma Devinney, of Blairsville, who with two children, Walter and Edna, survive him. His mother, four sisters and three brothers are also living. The funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at his late residence at 9 o'clock, after which his body will be interred temporarily in Oak Grove cemetery.
No recent death has caused more sincere or general sorrow among our people than this one. All who knew Mr. Boyd were his friends, and he was the friend of all. His manly christian life was admired by all. When 17 years of age he united with the Presbyterian church at Bethesda, near his home, and his delight was in things true, honest, just, pure, and of good report. Strong ties bound him to this world, but he was ready when the master called, and, as if to assist the death angel to release him from his intense suffering, as his last breath came, he lifted his hand and pressed his eyelids down, and death sealed them.
The grief sticken wife, children, mother, brothers and sisters have the sympathy of all who knew him for whom they mourn.
