Dorothy Jean Grissom Henderson 89, passed from this life to her heavenly home on December 18, 2010, surrounded by her family. She was born the fourth of five daughters, March 1, 1921 in Albia, Iowa to Squire Clay and Mary Ann Jane Grissom. She was born again to Christ when she was fifteen. She grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, and then moved with her family to Corpus Christi, Texas, where she worked at the Navy Base during the 1940's. She met and married her late husband, John Henderson, who was stationed at Laredo Army Air Corps Base in Laredo, Texas. They lived in Corpus Christi until retirement when they moved to Greenwood Acres, Buchanan Dam, Texas. Dorothy later moved to Ingleside, Texas to live near her daughter. She was active in her church wherever she lived and loved her Lord with all her heart, soul and mind. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John; sisters Marian Dee Grissom and Helen Ames; son-in-law Duncan Frank Wilson; grandson Bruce Wilson. She is survived by children Karen (Robert) Peterson of Ingleside, Texas, Jane Wilson of Austin, Texas, and John D. Henderson of the Philippines; sisters Margaret Hanson of Edna, Texas, Mary (George) Hughes of Irving, Texas. Also left to remember her are eight grandchildren, John (Kristi) Peterson, Laura (Bubba) Swink, Matthew (Elaine) Peterson, Kurt Peterson, Stephanie Peterson Gonzales, Libby Wilson, Courtney Wilson, Allen James Wilson; as well as nine great grandchildren, Karyn Swink, Leah Swink, Amber Peterson, Alyssa Peterson, Macy Gonzales, Sarah Swink, Ryan Peterson, Teagan Gonzales and baby Peterson; numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm. on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Bluffton Cemetery, Tow, Texas officiated by Kevin McDonald of Chapel of the Hills Baptist Church, Buchanan Dam, Texas. A memorial service will be held at a later date at First Baptist Church, Aransas Pass, Texas.
