Mabel Craighead, age 88, 0f Calwood, Missouri, died Monday, December5, 2005 at Riverview Nursing Center in Mokane, Missouri.

She was born May17, 1917, the daughter of the late Lester and Bertha (Salmons) Potts of Calwood, Missouri.

On November 28, 1942 she married William "Noble" Craighaed.of Calwood. He preceeded her in death on November 29, 1999.

She leaves behind a son, Dale "Bud" and his wife, Karen; granddaughter, Stacy of Calwood; grandson, Les and his wife Amy Grahm of Byars, Oklahoma; a sister, Viola Sheets of Fulton, Missouri and a brother, Bernard Potts and his wife, Mildred of Junction City, Kansas.

Her oldest son, Larry, preceeded her in death in 1986.

Mabel was a lifelong resident of Callaway County, living her entire life within walking distance of her birth home.She was the epitome of the country lifestyle, loving to cook large meals for her family. She always had a wonderful garden and loved to sit on her front porch and visit with neighbors.

She worked first at a local shoe factory and when she retired started a new career cooking lunch at the local high school. She loved the interaction with the kids at school.

She was known far and wide for her pies and her cooking in the cafe at the local cattle sale barn.

Mabel and Noble Craighead were the founding neighbors of the Callaway Rough Riders Saddle Club and were proud of their families involvement. They never missed a horse show at the arena or at the county fair.

Sundays would find Mabel at the Church of God Holiness and she loved her family there.

Many thanks go out to the caring people at Presbyterian Manor Assisted Living, Columbia Regional Hospital and Riverview Nursing Center and especially to Community Hospices of American. These, the people that helped care for Mabel her last two years.

Services are Thursday, December 8th, at 10:00am at Debo Funeral Home with Brother Kenneth Peterson officiating.

Burial will follow in Callaway Memorial Gardens.

Visitation Wednesday evening from 6 to 8pm at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Church of God Holiness or Community Hospices of America.
