Dr. Davis' father, Zachariah Clingman Davis, was born August 27, 1861, in Iron Duff, and passed his career there as a planter, farmer, fruit grower and stockman.
In 1911, at Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Davis married Miss Bonnie Jean Marquardt, who had been born at Asheville, NC, a daughter of L. P. and Frances (Fullam) Marquardt. The former was born at Havana, IL, and the latter at Asheville, NC.
Dr. Davis attended Haywood Institute, Carson Newman College, Davidson College, and Emory University where he received his medical degree in 1909. He practiced medicine for awhile in Haywood County and in the Hominy section of Buncombe County, NC for several years. He moved to Quincy in 1911, seeking the warmer climate because of an injury he had experienced. He was second vice president of the Florida Medical Society of Florida Railway Surgeons and organized the Gadsen County, Florida Hospital in 1920.
