Came to America with his wife, a son, Herman Henry, and a daughter, Wilhelmina Hagenmaier in 1869. They were on the ocean 7 weeks, landed at New Orleans and took a boat up the Mississippi River to St. Louis, then on to Manhattan, Kansas. They met two daughters, Mrs. H Wetzig and Mrs. Moehlman who had emigrated several years earlier.

The family homesteaded 180 acres of land near Winkler, just west of Randolph. They built a log cabin but later a stone house.

Pioneers of the Blue Stem Prairie, Vogelsang 1067, pg 478.
