F. David Ferrell, born December 23, 1922, in Linden, Cass County, Texas, passed away on December 20, 2010, in Longview. Mr. Ferrell had been a resident of Longview since 1952, initially working with Premier Oil Refining Company in sales. Later, he served as a principal of Ferrell Oil Company, Stan-Ann Oil Company and Magnum Corporation.

He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Longview, where he served as a deacon. In recent years, he was a docent at the East Texas Oil Museum in Kilgore. He was involved in civic affairs, having served as president of the Longview Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the Zoning and Planning Commission. Other service included membership on the Board of Trustees at East Texas Baptist University.

Mr. Ferrell served in the European Theater of Operation in World War II and was recalled to duty during the Korean Conflict. For his service, he was awarded a Presidential Citation and numerous medals, including the Silver Star, Bronze Star and the Purple Heart with three clusters.

He was preceded in death by his children, Martha and Stanley, as well as his parents and five brothers. He is survived by his wife, Helen Stanley Ferrell; his daughter, Dianne Ferrell Neal; and a granddaughter, Sarah Nickoloff and her husband, Chris; and two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Ellie, all of Nashville, Tennessee. He is survived by a sister, Lillian Parker of Waskom, Texas, and a brother, Morris Ferrell of White Oak, Texas. Extended family members include Steve and Sherry Adell of Houston and their children, Julie, Emily, Daniel and Katie.

A private interment service will be held at Memory Park Cemetery under direction of Rader Funeral Home with the Rev. David English and Dr. Harlan Hall officiating. A public memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced. The family requests that memorials may be made to the Martha Ferrell Scholarship Fund at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas, or to a charity of choices.
