Mrs. Emma Sorum Dies
Longtime Resident of Estherville
Mrs. Emma Sorum, 74, long time resident of Estherville, died Sunday [April 16, 1950] at 12:30 a.m. at Parkview clinic of lung infection and complications. She had been hospitalized for about four weeks and had been ill since Feb. 11.

She was born Jan. 9, 1876, in Cylinder, and received her education in that city. Sept. 18, 1895, she was married to E. T. Sorum, and the couple moved to the Ringsted community where he ran a general store and also was postmaster for 20 years.

Later they retired and moved to Florida because of Mr. Sorum's health, and after five years returned to Ringsted where they lived about two years before moving to Estherville where they lived until Mr. Sorum's death several years ago.

She is a member of the Estherville Lutheran church.

Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Ila Fink of Waterloo, Mrs. Minna Cole of Estherville, and Mrs. Nettie Nissen of Estherville, and one brother, C. J. Mathiesen of Estherville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, father, mother, a sister and two brothers.

Services will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Sternborg Funeral chapel and at 1:30 p.m. in Estherville Lutheran church, the Rev. L. G. Hinderkaer officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 17, 1950)
