and probably many others I have not seen yet.

Urben D. Wixom and Sarah Ann Johnson were married 12 Dec 1844 in Peoria County, Illinois. They had the following children:

Eleanor Lovinia Wixom 1846–1871
William Wallace Wixom 1848–1933
Josephus Wixom 1853–
Sarah Ann Wixom 1858–1892
Cynthia Jane Wixom 1861–1895

On 28 Jul 1861, Urben enlisted as a Private in Co E, 18th Regiment, Missouri Volunteer Infantry. He was mustered in at Camp Morgan in Nov 1861. In 1862 he was promoted to Corporal. He was promoted to 3rd Sergeant in Feb 1863. "Urvin" Wixom was taken prisoner at Cewalla, TN on 12 Sep 1863 and placed in Andersonville Prison. He was in and out of the hospital in Richmond and finally paroled in Apr 1864. At this time, he was sent by "Flag of Truce" boat to the Union hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. While there, he requested a furlough home for a month. He is listed on troop returns as absent from Sep 1863 to Jun 1865, prisoner of war captured by the enemy near Corinth, Miss, 12 Sep 1863. While he was absent, he was reduced from 3rd Sgt to the ranks (i.e.Private). However, he is shown as present on the Camp Chase muster in Aug 1864. He returned from furlough to Camp Chase with disability certification from his home physician. He was deemed unfit for duty and sent to Camp Douglas where he was transferred to Co F, 15th Veteran Reserve Corps in Oct 1864. He was listed as a patient since Oct 1864. Although he died in May 1865, he is listed on the company muster-out roll for Louisville, KY, Jul 1865. It was noted that there was no official muster-out record received. At some point, he was re-instated as Sergeant when his time in service was straightened out.
