Professor Richard Buss , 74, of 110 North Highland in New Ulm, died Saturday, November 27, 2004, at his home.

Memorial Service will be 11 a.m., Friday, December 3, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Wayne Laitinen officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Friday.

Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is handling the arrangements.

Richard is survived by a sister, Lois Ann Buss of LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carol Ligman; and by a brother, Charles Buss.

Richard was born on March 20, 1930, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, to Edwin and Malinda (Broecker) Buss. Richard attended high school at the Northwestern Preparatory School graduating in 1948 and the Northwestern College in Watertown, Wisconsin, graduating in 1952. He attended Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Thiensville, Wisconsin, graduating in 1957 as a Wisconsin Synod Lutheran Minister. Professor was a teacher at the Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge, South Dakota, for one year.

He was a pastor at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hettinger, North Dakota, Zion Lutheran Church in Reeder, North Dakota, and Christ Lutheran Church in Bison, South Dakota. In 1970, he came to DMLC as an English Instructor until 1995 when he retired. He was a member of the Hymnal Project for the Wisconsin Lutheran Synod involved in putting synod hymnals together. He was also a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.
