CDR Curtis Owen Murphy, USN Ret, 62, formerly of Massillon and Clay County, W.Va., passed away at home on Wednesday, November 24, 2010, surrounded by his wife and sons.

A celebration of life service will be held at Living Water Community Church, 200 N. Kurzen Road, Dalton, 44618 on Saturday, November 27, 2010, at 10 a.m. with pastors Mark Hirst and Dan Hostetler presiding. Fellowship and light refreshments will be in the church's Connection Pointe following the service. Interment with military honors will be on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, Dalton, is handling arrangements.

Curt was born on February 8, 1948, in Charleston, W.Va., the son of Paul and Marian (Myers) Murphy. On June 19, 1973, he married Catherine A. Cameron of Corning, NY. They have sons Robert P. (Erin) of Princeville, Ill., and Michael S. Murphy of Elizabethton, Tenn., and granddaughter Caitlin Kelley Murphy.

Curt joined the U.S. Navy in May 1967, retiring as a Commander in September 1995. He was a decorated Vietnam veteran, a U.S. Navy Diver and a submarine support officer. He served aboard the USS COUCOL, the USS HALIBUT and the USS PARCHE. Curt's last duty station was the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, where he commissioned his son Rob into the U.S. Navy. In retirement, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and Kidron Sports.

Along with his wife and sons, Curt is survived by brothers, Kelly D. (Julie) Murphy of Massillon, Teddy C. (Brenda) Murphy of Jackson, Steven C. (Marty) Murphy of Brewster, Paul Keith Murphy of Massillon, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Curt is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Linda P. Murphy, and brother, Randall W. Murphy.
