Albert (Alberdah) "Bert" Lee Reeves was born December 21, 1873 in Bourbon, Crawford County, Missouri to Benjamin Franklin Reeves and Margaret E. Isgrig. He married Martha Lucinda "Mattie" Ferguson on September 26, 1900 in Steelville, Crawford County, Missouri.
Albert L. and Mattie L. Ferguson Reeves had 5 children: Mattie, Bennie, Elizabeth, Ruth, and Albert L., Jr. (born ca 1907 - died 15 Apr 1987, Pauma Valley, Sandiego Co., CA, married Louise, 3 daughters: Elaine R. Padovani, Martha, and Nancy Reeves - Army Lieut. Col. WW II, then to Kansas City and was elected Republican member of US House of Representatives from MO District. 5th Congressional District - served 1 term, then to UT International, construction and mining firm in Northern CA, retired 1976; Martha died in 1911. Albert L., Sr. later married Blanche Ferguson on March 10, 1913; Judge A. L., Sr. was graduate Steelville College, admitted to Bar 1899 and later served in MO Legislature, Jefferson City, moved to Kansas City, became commissioner of Div. 2 of MO Supreme Court 1921 and 1923 was appointed to Federal bench under President Calvin Coolidge administration, retired 1954 after 31 years as US District Judge for Western District of MO, Kansas City, moved to Dunedin, FL 1961. He died on March 24, 1971 in Dunedin, Pinellas County, Florida and is buried in the Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, Clearwater, Pinellas County, Florida, USA
DUNEDIN - Judge Abert L. Reeves, who tried the Judith Coplon espionage case and the Bobby Greenlease kidnapping case died Wednesday March 24, 1971 at Morton F. Plant Hospital. He was 97.
A resident of 305 Edgewater Drive, Dunedin, Reeves was born in Steelville, Missouri on December 21, 1873 to Benjamin Franklin Reeves and Margaret E. Isgrig. He moved to Dunedin in 1961 from Kansas City, MO.
He received a bachelors degree from Steelville College, where he later was a professor. Reeves was admitted to the bar in 1899 and was a former legislative representative in Crawford Co., MO. He was a former general counsel and actuary of the MO State Insurance Department.
In 1921 he became commissioner of Division 2 of the Supreme Court of MO, and in 1923 was appointed a federal judge for the Western District of MO.
Since his retirement in 1954 he had been on call and had tried many cases in the United States, including his last case, in Tampa in 1967.
He was a member of Phi Delta Phi Society, Lawyers Association of Kansas City, MO Bar Association, American Bar Association, Order of the Colf, Knights of Pythias and Academy of MO Squires. He was a mason. He also was trustee emeritus of William Jewell College, a professor emeritus of the University of MO and an honorary member of the Jacob L. Loose Million Dollar Fund Association. He held honorary degrees from Park and Jewell colleges.
Survivors include his wife Mabel Finley; a son Albert l., Jr., Hillsborough, Calif; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Reeves Cripps, Van Nuys, Calif; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Moss Fort Harrison Chapel. Burial will be in Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park.
