He enlisted February 6, 1861 at Richmond, Miss. He was wounded in the Battle of The Wilderness May 6, 1864 and died on June 25, 1864 in a hospital in Lynchburg. He was 23 years old.

George enlisted on Feb. 6, 1861 in Company C. His rank was a Private and he listed his occupation as "farmer." His age was listed at 20 when he enrolled at Richmond, Mississippi. He was enrolled by Captain Bromley of Company C. He was not promoted, but he was named to the Confederate Roll of Honor for his actions at the Battle of the Wilderness on May 6, 1864 where he was severely wounded. He subsequently died as a result of his wound on June 25th, 1864.

Private Champion was a brave Confederate soldier who gave his life for the cause and was recognized by his comrades for his bravery by being named to the Roll of Honor.

Southern Confederacy 6-26-1864; of Co. C, 2nd MS; died at KNIGHT's factory; buried No. 2, 2nd line, Lot 186

According to my research and the over 20 muster rolls, George Madison Champion was a Private in Company K 18th Regiment Mississippi .. I also don't have any record of his burial or death. This stone says George W Champion and i know there are records with him also. George M did fight in the Wilderness Campaign but I am confused about the other info listed here. Thank you
