Mordicai Yarnell Day, the son of Joseph Day, Jr. and Margaret Elizabeth Brooks, was born on September 17, 1807 in Virginia. He was the husband of Susannah Whitely, the daughter of John Whitely and Bathsheba Haynes.

His wife Susannah Day died on March 13, 1874. She was buried in the Bratcher Cemetery # 2 in Grayson County, Kentucky that is located on the north side of Highway 62 on the W. G. Gatton farm near the Ohio County line. Mordicai Y. Day joined her there after his death on August 1, 1886.
