Born in Bradenburg, Kentucky Owen was the oldest of four children born to George and Inez (Carlisle) Parker. He had a brother Earl, and two sisters Edna and Elizabeth.

Owen moved up to Michigan when he was young in search of work. He met Florence Whitman on December 1, 1934. They were married March 16, 1935. They had four boys: Owen, Jr., Charles, David, and Michael. Sadly they lost their first born, Owen Jr., in 1938 due to influenza.

Owen was a veteran of World War II, Corps of Engineers. He served from 5/22/44-2/7/46. He was in two major campaigns and recieved: Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European, African, Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, 1 Bronz Star, and a Good Conduct Medal.

Owen was a member of Livonia Post No.3941, VFW. Prior to retirement, he was General Superintendent for Famous Furniture and Upholstery Co. in Detroit, Michigan. After his retirement Owen continued upholstering for many people out of his home.

In 1974 Owen and Florence moved down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He died the following year after a short illness. This was such a shock to our family. Owen was my grandpa, and I grew up just four blocks from my grandparents. It was tough haveing them move so far away, but I was looking forward to a visit to the ocean to see them again, and he passed before we could get down there from Michigan. Owen was a kind, quiet and wonderful person. I was only 10 when he passed and I remember walking with him to the corner store where he would lift me to the counter and buy me an ice cream. His nick-name for me was Sugar foot, and I sure wish I had been able to have him in my life at least a little longer.
