John Mason Hudson was born in Culpeper County VA on 11/10/1801. His parents were Abner Hudson and Elizabeth Mason Hudson. John married Susan Walker sometime before 1832 and they had four children: Joseph Warren, Marcellus G, Margaret Emma, and Martha L. John married S.W.E. Hume Hudson and they had six children: Richard H, Arabella Little, Lilbern F, Fannie C, Sarah J, and Lewellen.

He is listed in the 1850 census living in Madison County, VA and in the 1860 census living in Miami, Saline County, MO. It is probable that he came to Missouri in 1854 on a wagon train that left Culpeper on 9/1/1854 becuase he was neighbors of William and Richard Hutcherson in VA and they were living in his house in 1860. He died on 2/9/1879 and is buried in the Fairville Cemetery which is about 5 miles south of Miami.
