Leona E. Goeser, age 84, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Our House Assisted Living in River Falls, Wisconsin, formerly of Chilton. She was born on February 20, 1926 in the Town of Brothertown, daughter of the late Alois "Louis" & Mary (Seckel) Heimann. Leona was originally from the Chilton area but for the past nine years she resided in Northwestern Wisconsin close to her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In Leona's early years she attended and graduated from the Charlesburg Parochial School and then went to work the early shift at the Chilton Hotel. During World War II she worked for the Hart Carter Company in New Holstein making ammunition shells. After the war she married Meloris "Mel" Goeser on September 27, 1947 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Charlesburg. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1997. They resided in the Charlesburg area until 1970 until they moved to the Goeser Homestead in the Town of Brothertown until 1990. During this time she also worked for Gebhart's Tavern in Charlesburg, worked for 9 years at Northland Turkey Farm, and 15 years at Foley Company in Chilton. In the 90's she lived in the Chilton area and finally in 2001 she moved up to Barronett, WI, for 5 years until permanently residing in River Falls close to family. Survivors include her daughter, Shirley (Merl) Overvig; 3 grandchildren: Kris (Rick) Vocovich, Mark (Ronalea) Lemke, Captain Benjamin Lemke; great-grandchildren: Drake Vocovich and Kalea, Elizabeth, and Addison Lemke; a sister: Rosemary Schneider; and brother and sisters-in-law: Gordon, Rosie Schneider, Viola Propson, Romilda Ditter, Marlene Champeau , and Carol Heimann. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mel Goeser; a brother, Robert Heimann; a sister-in-law, Darlene Bosma; 5 brothers-in-law: John Schneider, Ted Propson, Jerome Champeau, Bill Ditter, and Gib Schneider. Funeral services will be on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Wieting Family Funeral Home in Chilton (411 W Main St.) with the Rev. Bob Kollath officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in Fond du Lac.
