A funeral and committal service will be held Friday for Frances Elizabeth Adams of The Cottage Colony at St. Paul's, West Salem Township. She passed away at 1 p.m. Tuesday (2-15-11) in the emergency room of UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 90.

Miss Adams was born May 16, 1920, in Sheakleyville to Joseph M. and Gertrude Knappenberger Adams.

She was a 1937 graduate of the former Sheakleyville High School and a 1941 alumna of Grove City College. Frances also took graduate courses at Penn State University.

Miss Adams taught English and business for 40 years at Hermitage School District, retiring in 1980.

As an active member since 1944 of First Presbyterian Church, Greenville, she served as a deacon and trustee and belonged to the Women's Association, for which she had been a past president, recording secretary and treasurer.

Frances was a member of the Bayview Literary Club of Greenville and was a longtime volunteer receptionist at UPMC Horizon. She belonged to several educational societies and truly enjoyed traveling, reading, crossword puzzles and visiting with shut-ins.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother and an infant sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
