Maj. Edwards, editor in chief of the Fargo Forum, passed away at his home in Fargo Saturday, after a long illness. The evening before his death, the Major sat in his chair until nine o'clock and his demise came peacefully. The deceased was 68 years of age and leaves a wife, six sons and one daughter. He started the Fargo Argus in 1879, which later was changed to the Forum. He was a very successful newspaper man and had many warm admirers all over the state. He was born in Ohio, but the early part of his life was spent in newspaper work in Illinois. He enlisted in the Civil War after trials, on account of the fact he weighed over 300 pounds, but he was an excellent soldier and was rapidly advanced until he became Major of his regiment (the 1st Alabama Cavalry, USV). In 1902, the Major was made the American consul general at Montreal, and in 1906 he had to give up this work on account of failing health.
