In 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in Korea. After returning home to Tomahawk, Harry was united in marriage to Nancy Jo Peterson Oct. 6, 1956, at Grace Lutheran Church in Tomahawk.
They made their home in Tomahawk until moving to West Bend in 1968. Then Harry started working for the Gehl Company. He retired in 1988. Nancy preceded him in death, May 29, 1993. In 1998, he moved in with his daughter, Tanya, in Manitowoc.
Harry enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed hunting, bowling, fishing, race cars, bingo and talking on his CB radio. His CB handle was "Snoopy." Harry was a member of the AMVETS post No. 99 in Manitowoc.
He is survived by nine children, Cynthia (Jack) Carter, Newburg, Rhonda (Mark) Loppnow, West Bend, Brenda (Walter) Grotelueschen, John Weiss and Elisa Weiss, all of Newburg, Tanya (Dennis) Klein, Manitowoc, Victoria Oestreich and Dana (Eric) Staples, all of Newburg, and Bradley (Loni) Weiss, Merrill; 17 grandchildren, Brooke, Brandon and Paige Carter, Britney, Bethany and Ashley Loppnow, Amanda Grotelueschen, Eric Weiss and Jacob Carstenson, Kylie and Jared Weiss, Cassandra Weiss, Matthew and Nicholas Oestreich, William and Abigail Staples, and Jordon Erickson; two sisters, Irene Taylor, Wausau, and Joyce Greening, Neenah; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Peterson, Wausau, and Marion (George) Mondeik, Gleason; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Nina Reeves; three brothers, Robert Weiss, Edward "Bud" Weiss and Herbert Weiss; his parents-in-law, Oscar and Helen Peterson; four brothers-in-law, Ellis V. Peterson, Carl Greening, James Taylor and Carl Reeves; and a grandson, Justin L. Staples.
Funeral services will be at noon Friday, Dec. 29, at Lutheran Memorial Lutheran Church, Gleason. The Rev. Steven Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow in Gleason Cemetery.
