Betty, 81, of Portland passed away Friday after complications due to diabetes. Betty was born on Valentines Day, the daughter of Dee and Ada (Barber) Knapp. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Betty enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting, baking and spoiling her nine grandchildren. She also enjoyed many of Dad's hobbies including fishing, but drew the "line" at cleaning them! She was preceded in death by her brother Richard Knapp.
Surviving is her husband of 62 years, Richard J. Smith; children, Joan (Patric) Milley of Kalamazoo, Linda (Steve) Huhn of Portland, Kathy (Doug) Whitman of Normal, IL, and Karen Little of Haslett; nine grandchildren, Ryan (Sarah) Milley, Kyle Milley, Craig (Kellie) Huhn, Lindsey (Chris) Spitzley, Leigh Whitman, Jessica Whitman, Kwesi Little, Cody Little, and Alysia Little; three great grandchildren, Audrey Huhn, Devin, and Brayden Spitzley; sister, Shirley Ward.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, January 3, 2011 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Rev. Larry King presiding. The rosary was prayed.
