George Russell was a veteran of many engagements, including Battle of Point Pleasant in 1774, Kings Mountain in 1780 and Lookout Mountain in 1782.

Some accts say he was killed while hunting with Daniel Boone. ("A Horner Legacy" by Fredalene Cooper Horner).

Married to Elizabeth Bean, daughter of William Bean, early TN pioneer, and Margaret Hatton.

His grandson, (son of Major William Russell) also named George Russell, was a friend of Davey Crockett and portrayed by Buddy Ebsen in the Disney shows of the 1950s.

My fourth great grandfather, thru his daughter Elizabeth who married John Horner.

Bent Creek Cemetery is the traditionally recorded burial place for George Russell. He was a charter member of this church. If someone can confirm his burial with an official record or photograph, many Russell researchers and descendants would be very appreciative.

His parents are unknown. They may have been William Russell and Martha Henley listed below. This family is challenging due to the heavy use of William and George.
