Obituary
Mary Ellen Gray
This morning at 1:20 at the home of her son, Charles Gray, 301 East 3rd Street, occurred the death of Mrs. Mary Ellen Gray, a former resident of Marion Township, south of the city. Mrs. Gray had been ill for over a year with an aliment of the liver, and for about three moths her condition had been very serious.

Mrs. Gray was born at New London, Henry County, Iowa on September 29, 1846 and was the daughter of James Embree and Elmira Marshall Embree. She was married to John Stafford, who died in 1879. To them were born eight children, and six survive their mother. They are: Mrs. Martin Swift of east of the city; Ralph and John Stafford of Haskins; Mrs. Eva Collins of Montana; Will Stafford of near Havre; and Mrs. John Birney of Haskins. Mrs. Stafford was married to Anderson Gray in 1881. Mr. Gray is still living, and also five children of Mr. and Mrs. Gray: Charles Gray of this city; Sylvester Gray of Shambaugh, Iowa; Mrs. Geo. Wilson of south of this city; Pearl Gray of Blue Grass, Iowa; and Mrs. John Miller of Brighton. The following brothers and sisters also mourn the death of their sister; Mrs. Thomas Smylie of Crawfordsville; James Embree of Keota; Mrs. Charles Phillips of this city; and Louis Embree of Haskins.

For several months Mrs. Gray had made her home with her son, Charles Gray. Previous to that time she lived for many years in Marion Township, and was well known to many of the residents of that vicinity. She was a member of the Methodist church, and was a woman who was much respected by her many acquaintances. She was a good mother and will be sorely missed by her children.

The funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 9:30 at the Charles Gray residence. Interment will be in the Benson Cemetery south of town.
