Mr. Heaton died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he had been a member. Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, is handling arrangements.
Mr. Heaton was born July 23, 1911, in Macomb, Ill., the son of Ross and Roxie Stroops Heaton. He married Fern W. Woods in 1946. She died May 9, 1998.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from John Deere Harvester, East Moline, in 1973, after 25 years of service.
Bernard loved politics, gardening, and his job at John Deere. He was always the life of the party with his great wit and humor. His greatest joy was his family. He will be deeply missed.
Survivors include daughters, Linda Weber, Iowa City, Iowa, Lana Geyssens, Moline, Shelia Bagley, Moline, Patricia Heaton, Moline; sons and daughters-in-law, Ross and Sherry Heaton, Silvis, Bernie and Janice Heaton, Moline, David and Joan Heaton, Moline, Roger Heaton, Rock Island, Kennedy and Jodi Heaton, Davenport, Joseph Heaton, Joliet; son-in-law, Wayne Stratton, Davenport; sisters, Arial, Maxine, Doris and Betty; brothers, Irvin, Vernon, Bill, Ross Jr., Ben and Virgil. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Roxie Stratton; brother, Vivian.
