Gladys M. Powell, 90, of Nacogdoches, TX, was born on January 13, 1920 and passed away on Friday, December 31st, 2010 in Nacogdoches, TX. Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Rev. Eugene Powell, her mother, Claudia Brock Kelley Purvis, her father, Marvin Emmett Kelley and her 4 siblings: Bill Purvis, Philma Purvis, Quentin Purvis and Ruby Purvis Marble. She is survived by her four children: Mildred Benton and husband, Eldon, of Nacogdoches, TX, Greta Barnett and husband, Leon, of Shepherd, TX, Marvin Powell of New Caney, TX and David Powell and wife, Diana, of Elkhart, IN. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Charlotte Benton Woods of Woden, TX, Melanie Benton Fridell of Diboll, TX, Tracie Benton Cannon of Nacogdoches, TX, Deborah Barnett Parker of Mena, AR, Pamela Barnett Long of Pasadena, TX, Kim Gillen Lafray, Michelle Powell Conner and Jennifer Powell of Cleveland, TX, Heather Powell Schrock and Seth Powell of Elkhart, IN and Clay Powell of Bridgman, MI. She is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was much loved by her family and friends and will be missed. Mrs. Powell was a licensed minister of the United Pentecostal Church and was a pastor's wife for many years. She was also an LVN in her younger years. She was a resident of Willowbrook Nursing Center for approximately the past 7 years and was much loved by the nurses and aides there. Her chief goal in life was to be a witness for Jesus Christ. Visitation will be at Laird's Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2011 and her homegoing service will be at 1:00 p.m. at Shepherd United Pentecostal Church in Shepherd, Tx with visitation at the church to begin at 11:00 A.M.. Officiating will be Rev. Jubal Cannon, Rev. Greg Gerald and Rev. Brent Crosswhite. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Livingston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Refurbishing Fund of Greater Faith Tabernacle UPC, 2800 Old Lufkin Road, Nacogdoches, Tx 75964.
