Sister Irma Reichling, CSA, 98, a resident of Saint Francis Home in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, died at the Home on Thursday, May 10, 2007. Sister was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, on October 29, 1908, the daughter of John and Rose Whalen Reichling. Sister Irma was baptized Rosella Mary Reichling at Saint Joseph's Church in Fond du Lac. After graduating from Saint Mary's Springs Academy in 1925 she entered the Congregation of Saint Agnes, professing her vows in 1927. Just eleven days before her death, on April 29,2007, Sister celebrated her 80th Jubilee as a member of the Congregation of Saint Agnes. Sister Irma dedicated sixty-two years of ministry to the field of education. She served both as an elementary and secondary school teacher in the states of New York, Wisconsin, and Illinois. Sister also served as elementary and secondary school principal in Wisconsin, Kansas, and Illinois. After retiring from the classroom Sister continued in the field of education, serving as librarian at Our Lady Queen of Angels in East Harlem, New York. Sister Irma was a gentle woman with great energy for justice issues. During her years of ministry in East Harlem, New York, Sister Irma quietly but passionately participated in the Latin American solidarity movement. After retiring to the Boyle Apostolic Center in Fond du Lac in 1989 Sister continued to work for justice and reach out to those in need. Due to failing health Sister Irma came to Saint Francis Home, continuing to serve her Creator through prayer and suffering.

Survivors include: her nephew, John Reichling of Mauston, Wisconsin; one grandnephew, Michael (Sharla) Reichling of Fort Worth, Texas; one great-grandniece, Laura Reichling of Fort Worth, Texas; cousins, friends, and members of the Congregation of St. Agnes with whom she lived and ministered.

Sister was preceded in death by her two brothers, Leo and John "Tony" Reichling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2007, at St. Francis Home Chapel at 33 Everett Street in Fond du Lac. The Rev. Edward Sippel will preside. Burial will follow the Mass of Christian Burial and will be at St. Joseph Springs Cemetery in Fond du Lac. Visitation will be held at Nazareth Court, 375 Gillett Street, Fond du Lac after 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 14, 2007, where a prayer service will be held at 11:00A.M. Memorials may be directed to the Sisters of St. Agnes Development Office.
