Alice Evangeline Vanarsdall, 93, of Hershey, died Feb. 16, 2006, at Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland. Alice was born Jan. 22, 1913, on the family farm north of North Platte, to Orson Harrison and Jennie Arnett Covell. She attended school at Nichols School in the Platte Valley west of North Platte. Alice then attended the Lincoln School of Commerce, graduating with a secretarial degree. Alice was united in marriage to Max Ray Vanarsdall on Nov. 9, 1934, at Julesburg, Colo. They farmed north of North Platte, east of Hershey at Nichols and at Sutherland. In 1948, they pur-chased a farm on the Birdwood Creek north of Hershey, where they made their home. Alice was always interested in education and was a founding member of the Nebraska School Improve-ment Association and active with the National Reading Reform Foundation. Survivors include three daughters, Margaret (John) Nordhoff of Fredrick, Md., Wilda (Charles) Foran of Arnold and Barbara (Ron) Evans of Jefferson City, Mo.; a son, John (Barb) Vanarsdall of Hershey; a sister, Elsie (Glen) Silcott of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 12 grandchil-dren; 16 great-grandchildren; and other family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Max; a sister, Celia Hensley; a brother, Richard Covell; and a grandson, Cameron Hicks.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with the Rev. Nelson Horsfall of the Hershey Baptist Church officiating. Cremation was chosen. Inurnment will be in Riverview Cemetery at Sutherland.
