Deceased Name: CANCER CLAIMS 12-YEAR-OLD
Brandon W.Richard lost his one-year battle with cancer Monday.

Brandon, 12, a lifelong resident of the Coast, died at his mother's residence, The youngster's grandfather Arthur J. Haman of North Biloxi said Tuesday.

Brandon and his family learned that he had cancer in April 1995, Haman said.

''He was coming to my house from school,'' Haman said. ''This one day, this big kid hit him in the stomach'' and punctured a tumor.

''He (Brandon's attacker) was a bully'' Haman said. ''(Brandon) liked to have bled to death.'' The tumor was sewn up at Biloxi Regional Medical Center, and Brandon was transferred to the University of Mississippi Medical Center on April 12, Haman said.

Tumors gradually ate away at Brandon's liver, lungs and back and paralyzed the youngster earlier this year, Haman said.

Brandon's death will leave a void in the lives of family and friends, he said.

''He liked going fishing with me, he liked going hunting with me, he liked going camping with me,'' Haman said. ''He lived a life. For 12 years old there ain't another ... like him.''.

Brandon was a student at St. Martin Middle School and a member of Lemoyne Boulevard Baptist Church in North Biloxi. He was First Junior Grand Marshal of the North Bay/D'Iberville (1996) Mardi Gras Parade.

Survivors include his mother, Sandra Kay Richard, and his father, Billy Wayne Richard, both of D'Iberville; his grandparents, Haman and hiswife, Golda J. Haman, and Wallace and Fern Richard of St. Martin; and a brother, Robert Wesley Osborn of Gulfport.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue, Biloxi. A service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel, with burial in D'Iberville Memorial Park.
