He was born on March 3, 1917 in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, the son of Alfred Rodriguez and Juana Acosta. He married Bertha Williams of Tavistock, England on December 15, 1945 while serving in the United States Army during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha; daughter, Bonnie (Don) Murphy of Pekin; son, Nelson (Twyla) Acosta of Claremont, California; five grandsons, Todd (Kim) Murphy of Mackinaw, Rob Murphy of Pekin, Jeffrey (Erin) Acosta, Stephen Acosta and Bryan Acosta, all of California; seven great-grandchildren, Tabatha and Payton Murphy of Mackinaw, Makenna and Justin Murphy of Pekin, and Samantha, Alexander and Kylie Jade Acosta, all of California. He is also survived by one brother, Freddie Ramirez in New York City and three sisters, Christine Martinez and Gladys Camacho, both in Florida and Rosita Lopez of Puerto Rico.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Wilson, William, Felito and Carlos Ramirez, and Alfred Rodriguez, Jr. and three sisters, Faya, Carmen, and Irma.
Pedro attended school in Puerto Rico, joined the United States Army during World War II and owned his own grocery business for many years in Newark, New Jersey. He later resided in Watertown, Wisconsin before moving to Pekin in 2000.
He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church and Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1232, both in Pekin.
He was a kind and gentle soul and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who treasured spending time with his family.
His funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. Father James Pankiewicz will be the celebrant. Visitation will be one hour before the Mass at the church. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded by the United States Army and Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
