Obituary in The State, Columbia, SC, 2 Jan 2005: Lexington - Services for Ruth Alene Backman Gunter, 92, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 3, 2005 at First Baptist Church of Cayce with interment to follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2005 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Cayce. Mrs. Gunter, widow of George Griff Gunter, died Friday, December 31, 2004. Born in Lexington County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Wesley Backman and Myra Lugenia Miller Backman. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cayce. She is survived by her son, Jerry G. Gunter; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Delbert Likins of Statesville, NC, grandchildren, Adrian Likins and Venus Blake; great-grandchild, Jonathan Tyler Blake; sisters, Pearle and Nettie Gunter, of Lexington, Annie Belle Shoemake Gunter of West Columbia, Vonita McFarlin, Juanita Marcum, Thelma Dykes and Myrtle Mille all of Lexington; brothers, Clyde, Franklin and Charles Backman all of Lexington. Mrs. Gunter was predeceased by her sister, Irene Miller.
