Violet McClure Davisson, 89 of West Union passed away on Friday November 21, 2008 in the Wetzel County Hospital. She was born on May 14, 1919 in Doddridge County a daughter of the late Silas L. and Lilly Hill Davis. Twice married she was preceded in death by her first husband Charles M. McClure and her second husband Gale V. Davisson.

Surviving are one son, Nelson McClure and wife Evelyn, Center Point, one daughter, Tammie Hayes and husband Michael, Middlebourne, eight grandchildren, Vickie Ritter, James McClure Jr., Diane McClure, Melonee Marie Burnside and husband Billy, Jennifer Michelle Stalder, Kimberly Dawn Sears, and husband Kevin, Michael Joseph Hayes and wife Amanda, Tyler Wesley Hayes, 14 great grandchildren. Violet was the last surviving member of her immediate family being preceded in death by one son, James H. McClure, one great grandson, Riley Sky Hayes, two sisters, Loraine B. Davis, Wilma F. Alton, four brothers, Anthony B. Davis, Sanford Davis, Wilbur R. Davis, Berlin D. Davis.

Violet was retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a postmaster of Center Point Post Office with 23 years service. She had been a member of the Pleasants Baptist Church where she was Pianist, Choir Member, Sunday School Teacher and church clerk. She had also been a member of the Salem Baptist Church where she was an Ordained Deacon and Choir Member and a member of the American Baptist Women. Violet was a member of the Middlebourne Baptist Church and the Doddridge County Senior Citizens Inc. She enjoyed music, playing piano, watching sporting events on TV and most of all watching her son Jim race motor cycles. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family, friends and her cat "Opie".

Friends may call in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 212 Front St. West Union on Monday November 24, 2008 from 2-4 & 6-8, PM and after 9AM on Tuesday until time of service. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday November 25, 2008 in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 PM with Pastor Roger Fontaine officiating. Interment will follow in the K of P Memorial Park, Salem.
