...John and Maretta Biggs were married on November 11, 1875 in Basco, Hancock County, Illinois. They were members of the Basco Methodist Church and were faithful and earnest workers in every activity of the church. Mr. Brown was the director of the church choir for many years. When the church building was remodeled in the 1930's, a beautiful window was placed as a memorial to them by their children.
...John and Maretta were the parents of five children, which only two of them lived to adulthood. The first born was George Dewey who only lived four months; the second was James Eural who was an auctioneer and his wife's name was Hazel; the third was daughter Estella Minnie who married George Walter Sells; the fourth child was baby Mabel who lived for 18 months; the last child was daughter Flossie Jewel who died in 1907 at the age of 18 years.
...John was listed as a farm laborer in all the census records. He died at the age of 52 years and is buried in the South Basco Cemetery.
