Mary Lee graduated from Pocomoke High School in 1939 and Salisbury Teachers College in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She was recognized in 1983 for 29 years of "...efficient and faithful service…" to the youth of the State of Maryland, as a public school teacher. Her last 25 years of teaching were all in Pocomoke City. She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church in Pocomoke City. Mary Lee took a lot of pride in her Pocomoke community and believed strongly in giving back to it over the years.
She is survived by two sons, Bernard Klein Leister of Henrico, VA and Grant Everhart Leister and his wife Vicki of Chesterfield, VA; two grandaughters, Whitney Elizabeth Leister and Emily Everhart Leister; two sister-in-laws, Betty Rae Laws of Snow Hill and Carolyn Rebecca Godfrey of Fenwick Island.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Klein Gill Leister who died November 20, 2009.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Pocomoke City, 204 Fourth St., Pocomoke City, MD with interment in the First Baptist Cemetery on Old Snow Hill Road in Pocomoke City. Friends may visit from 5 – 7 pm on Tuesday at the Holloway Funeral Home in Pocomoke City and one hour prior to the service in the church. Memorial contributions can be made to the Pocomoke City Volunteer Fire Department, 1410 Market Street, Pocomoke City, MD 21851 or to the First Baptist Church 204 Fourth Street, Pocomoke City, MD 21851.
