Taus Harms, Sr., 90, died on Sunday, June 29, 2003, due to complications resulting from a stroke that he had suffered on Father's Day.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 2, at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond, with Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating.

Music was provided by Gwendolyn Gochenouer, organist and Marilyn Janssen, soloist. Casket bearers were Bennie Harms, Ron Harms, Jeremy Harms, Larry Harms, Gary Harms, Sr. and Gary Harms, Jr. Interment was in the Belmond Cemetery.

Taus Harms, Sr., son of Stenus and Grace (Folkerds) Harms, was born on August 3, 1912 in rural Franklin County. He married Cecelia Heginger on Febraury 3, 1934. To this union were born 12 children.

Taus farmed in the Thornton, Klemme, Chapin, Belmond and surrounding areas until he moved to the Belmond Community Apartments in 1997 and then later in 1997 to the Belmond Health Care Center.

Taus enjoyed playing cards and dice, visiting with family and friends.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Cecelia, of 48 years, who died on January 25, 1982; two infant babies; one grandson; one great-grandson; and 14 brothers and sisters.

The ten surviving children are Bennie (Jean) Harms of Mason City, Taus Harms, Jr., of Belmond, Larry (Maxine) Harms of Sanborn, Harry (Barbara) Harms of Hampton, Darlene (Dexter) Ewers of Mason City, Arlene Wiemann of Nora Springs, Donald (Georgia) Harms of Hampton, Ronald (Nancy) Harms of Belmond, Jerry (Marlene) Harms of Rockledge, Florida and Gary (Barbara) Harms of Rockledge, Florida; one brother, Herman Harms of Forest City; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
