September 30, 1866 ~ November 27, 1927

Mrs. V.V. Akin, 61, of 423 Fremont Street, Manhattan, Kansas, wife of a former Manhattan mayor, died at her home here about 9:45 Sunday morning. She had been ill more than a year.

Mrs. Akin had spent her entire life in Riley county, Kansas. After graduating from high school, and attending college her in Manhattan, Kansas, she moved to a farm near Zeandale, but the past 15 years had been spent in Manhattan.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, V.V. Akin; daughter, Mrs. Lester Shepard of Rock Rapids, IA; two grandchildren, Helen and Lois Shepard; three sisters, Mrs. Elnora Williston of Kansas City, MO; Mrs. Flora Allen of Topeka, KS, and Mrs. Carrie Shumway of Manhattan; two brothers, M.W. Ingraham of Chanute, KS and C.R. Ingraham of Manhattan.

Mr. Akin served as mayor of Manhattan for three years, starting in 1919.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon from the home, the Rev. J. David Arnold officiating. Burial will be at the Zeandale cemetery.
