Dorothy M. Fiesbeck VanArsdall, 89, of South Drive, Columbus, passed away at 6:22 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2007, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
A lifelong Bartholomew County resident, she was born Oct. 14, 1917, to Robert and Laura Voelz Fiesbeck.
Upon graduation from Columbus High School, she was employed by H.L. Rost Jewelry Store. On April 19, 1942, she married Paul E. VanArsdall at St. Peter's Lutheran Church while he was on leave from the Air Force during World War II.
After the war, her efforts concentrated on being a homemaker and mother. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where she had served on various committees, including Christian Fellowship Society and Altar Guild.
"Grandma Dody," as her grandchildren so affectionately called her, loved the outdoors and her family. Gardening and landscaping were her hobbies.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2007, at Myers-Reed Dignity Memorial Chapel on 25th Street, with Pastor Mike Malinski officiating.
Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Calling will be from noon until service time Monday.
Memorials may be directed to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or Columbus Regional Hospital Foundation.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Ken (Kim) VanArsdall of Columbus; a daughter, Lorna (Bruce) Moore of Whitefish, Mont.; grandchildren, Kara Bishop of Lafayette and Kelsey VanArsdall of Columbus; a grandson, Owen, of Lafayette; and sisters, Lenora Miller and Ruth (Don) Burbrink, all of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Paul E. VanArsdall, on April 1; and a brother, Robert Fiesbeck Jr.
