Dies From Attack of Asthma
Millerstown, March 27. ------ John Beacham, a Civil war veteran, of this place, died at his home on Thursday evening of asthma at the age of 70 years. Mr. Beacham served in the Union army during the Civil war. He was also a miner for a number of years.

A Civil War veteran, John enlisted in Danville, Montour County, February 11, 1864, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg February 16 as an unassigned private with the 3rd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery (152nd Pa). On April 1, 1864, per orders of Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, many of the artillerists were transferred to the 188th Pennsylvania Infantry. Beacham went to Co. G and honorably discharged with his company December 14, 1865. He is listed in the company register as 'Beecham'.
