I've seen several places that say he was born in New York City. But I have not followed up on that.

On his death certificate it says that he is the father of 6 children and 6 are still alive.

At the regular meeting of the Rebekah lodge 103, Feb 3 the following resolutions were adopted:
Whereas, We are called upon to record the death of our beloved brother, Thomas Wells.
Resolved, that while we bow in submission to the divine will of God, we deeply implore and mourn for one whom we love and respect for his manly and honest traits of character and we sympathize with his widow and family in their sad bereavement and join in with them in mourning for him who has mingled with us fraternally, and we honestly pray that God, in his infinite mercy, will enable them to bear up under their sad bereavement, humbly submitting to his divine will.
Resolved, That our charter be draped in mourning for thirty days and that a copy of these resolutions be presented to his widow and be spread on lodge record, and be published in the papers of Marshall.
