— LEWISBURG — John H. Aikey, 70, of Lewisburg, entered into rest on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

He was born Aug. 9, 1940 in Mifflinburg, a son of the late Robert C Aikey and Flo (Catherman) Aikey. On Nov. 6, 1959, he married the former Sandra L. (Rice) Aikey, who survives. Together they shared 51 years of memories.

He enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard in 1958 and served for 23 years, until his honorable discharge in 1981.

John worked as a repairman at Pennsylvania House Furniture, Lewisburg for 39 and one-half years.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and going to the cabin in Cambria County.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Arlene Aikey and her companion Mel Litz, of Lewisburg, Joanna and Steve Brown, of Milton; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Rose Aikey, of Lewisburg; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; also a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and George Holtzapple, of New Columbia.

Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the Schwartz Adamo Funeral Home, Mifflinburg, followed by the funeral at 10 with the Rev. John H. Shaw III, officiating.

Burial with military honors accorded by the veterans of Mifflinburg American Legion and Mifflinburg VFW will be in the Hironimus Union Church Cemetery, Weikert.
