Woodstock, December 29 –
John P. Lonas, a prominent citizen of Mt. Jackson: died at his home Friday morning following a stroke of which he sustained about ten days ago and from which he never regained consciousness.

Mr. Lonas, who was eighty-two years old, was a retired merchant, a Confederate Veteran of marked bravery and a prominent member of the Lutheran Church. During the War Between the States he served Company K, 12th Virginia Regiment, Rosser’s Brigade.

He is survived by his wife, who was Miss French Tanquery; two daughters, Miss Virginia Lonas, assistant postmistress of Mount Jackson and Miss Laura Lee Lonas a student of Dungmore Business College, Staunton and three sons, Tanquery Lonas, of Mt. Jackson; Alfred Lonas in the United States Navy and Frederick Lonas, at home. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Ella Shaffer of Woodstock; and Mrs. Kate Johnson and Mrs. Hannah Weatherholtz, of Mount Jackson.

The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon from the Lutheran church and interment will be made in Clover Hill Cemetery. The services will be conducted by Rev. B. F. Copenhaver.
