Crawford Scott was the son of Thomas and Nancy Skidmore Scott. He was married to Ann Scott. A roadside memorial can be found on WV State Route #151 near Norton, Randolph County, West Virginia. The memorial reads; "In commemoration of his loyalty to Abraham Lincoln and of his services as a guide to the Union forces during the Civil War of 1861-1865 while living on this farm first native of Randolph County to promote the commercial development of coal lands." Crawford's older sister Margaret (1811-1891) served as a spy and courier for the Confederacy. She was married to Moses J. Phillips (1817-1887). They are buried in the Phillips Cemetery at Jimtown, West Virginia.
