U.S. Congressman. He engaged in mercantile pursuits, was town clerk of Lowville in 1825, Clerk of Lewis County, (1825-31, 35-40) and a member of the New York State Assembly in 1832. In 1839, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-sixth and Twenty-seventh Congresses, serving until 1843. After his term, he was vice president of the Bank of Lowville (1843-47), moved to California in 1849, engaged in mining, returned to New York and was clerk in the customhouse, New York City, (1853-57). He died at age 75 in Brooklyn, New York.
