Funeral Services Held Friday for Late Mrs. McBride
Funeral services for the late Mrs. Clara McBride, 72, who died at her home on
Seventh street Wednesday afternoon were held Friday afternoon were held Friday
afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, at the Methodist Episcopal church after which the
body was taken to the Zearing cemetery for interment by the side of her
husband, the late J. E. McBride, who died in 1923.
The services, in charge of her pastor, Dr. C. D. Loose, were attended by a
large gathering of relatives and old neighbors and friends. The floral
offerings were many and bore a touching tribute to the deceased.
Clarabelle Victoria Conner McBride, daughter of Jacob G. and Rebecca Elizabeth Conner, was born near Tunnelton, Preston County, West Virginia, July 6, 1865 and passed away at her home in Nevada, Iowa, Aug. 18, 1937, at the age of 72 years, 1 month, and 12 days, she being the last surviving member of her family. When she
was eight years of age, her father and only sister Sarah Charlotte passed away
and she moved with her mother and two brothers to Illinois.
On Aug. 2, 1883, she was married to Jacob Edmund McBride at De Land, Illinois.
Eleven children were born to this union Lenora Pearl, Arthur Ray, Lucy
Rebecca, Glen Forrest, Harold Spray, Orrin Elwood, Leslie Alden, Lola Opal,
Russell Clare, Velma Fay and Avalee Doris.
In February, 1893, they moved to Iowa and located near Gilbert. In 1894 they located north of Nevada, where they remained until 1905 when they moved to Zearing. In 1916 they moved to Shipley where her husband passed away on Feb. 15, 1923. She moved to her home at 617 Seventh St. Nevada in March, 1931, where she remained until her death.
She leaves to mourn her death nine children, Lucy, now Mrs William Irvin of Winnebago, Minn., Ray, Glen, and Lola now Mrs. Blayney Johnston all of Zearing, Harold, Leslie, Russell, Avalee now Mrs. Wilbur Webb all of Nevada, and Velma who lived with her mother.
Twenty grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends also mourn her passing.
One daughter, Lenora Pearl Deal, and one son, Orrin Elwood McBride , preceded her in death.
She was raised in the Methodist faith, but when she moved to Zearing became a
member of the Bethel Evangelical church. During her residence at Shipley she
was active in church work there being teacher of the adult class also
president of the Shipley Ladies Aid.
Upon moving to Nevada, she placed her membership with the Methodist church
where she was a faithful attendant until her health failed.
She was a kind and loving mother, a thoughtful neighbor and friend and will be
greatly missed by all who knew her.
