U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Manhattan College, in 1891, studied law, as admitted to the bar in 1893 and commenced to practice law in New York City. He was a trustee of Manhattan College, when elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-sixth Congress and to the next nine succeeding Congresses, serving (1899-1917). Declining reelection, he served as judge of Kings County, (1932-42). He then resumed the practice of law until his death at age 80.
