Hogans Creek community resident Claude Armistead died, of lung cancer at his Thompson Hollow Lane home, at 2:27 a.m., Wednesday morning, December 29, 2010. He was 58. Services were conducted from the Carthage First Free Will Baptist Church on Friday morning, December 31st, with his pastor, Bro. Frank Bratcher officiating. Burial followed the 11:00 a.m. service in the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens. One of five children, he was born Claude Allen Armistead at the late Dr. Thayer S. Wilson's office in Carthage on June 11, 1952 to Claude Mack and Ruby Nell Smith Armistead. He was preceded in death by his parents and by two siblings, James Armistead and Anna Hancock. On September 21, 2003 he was united in marriage to Patricia Faye Burton, who preceded him in death on May 17, 2010. Mr. Armistead worked for several years as a custodian at the Forks River Elementary School and most recently with the Town of South Carthage. He was a member of the Carthage First Free Will Baptist Church at Tanglewood. Surviving are a son, Wayne Silcox and wife, Bridget of Difficult; brother, Joe Armistead of Murfreesboro; sister, Pat Armistead of Baxter; grandchildren, Dustin and Bailey Silcox.
