U.S. Congressman. Born in Otisco, New York, he graduated from Hamilton College, in 1845, taught school until 1853, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1854 and commenced to practice law in Clyde, New York. He served as judge of the Wayne County Court, (1864-69). In 1869, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-first Congress, serving until 1871. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law, was again judge of Wayne County Court, (1874-80) and from 1886, until his death at age 78 in Clyde, New York.
