U.S. Congressman. He studied law at the Litchfield Law School Connecticut, was admitted to the bar in 1815 and commenced the practice of law in Ogdensburg, New York. He was Treasurer of St. Lawrence County, (1821-33) and served as judge of the court of common pleas for St. Lawrence County, (1824-39). In 1839, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-sixth Congress, serving until 1841. After his term, he served again as judge of the court of common pleas for St. Lawrence County, (1843-47) and was a member of the New York Senate, in in 1848. After leaving politics, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 72.
