Spanish-American War Medal of Honor Recipient. He was issued the award on December 14, 1898 for his actions as an ordinary seaman assigned to the Navy cruiser USS Marblehead from 26-27 July 1898, near Caimanera, Cuba. Following the war, he remained in the US Navy and served during World War I, achieving the rank of chief boatswain's mate before retiring. In addition the the Medal of Honor, he also received the Sampson Medal, the Spanish Campaign Medal, and the World War I Victory Medal during his military career. He later moved to Kansas where he died at the age of 87. His Medal of Honor citation reads: "On board the U.S.S. Marblehead at the approaches to Caimanera, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, 26 and 27 July 1898. Displaying heroism, Triplett took part in the perilous work of sweeping for and disabling 27 contact mines during this period."
