Actor. He was a British actor who appeared on stage, radio, film, and television. Starting in 1931, he appeared in at least a dozen films, including "Under Your Hat" in 1940. Besides being an actor, he was a director, screenwriter, and singer, specializing primarily in comedy productions. His acting career began with plays at school in Cambridge. He was drafted during World War I but did not serve for an unknown reason. In 1936, exhibitors voted him the third most popular British film star. By the end of World War II, his career was declining, and he did fewer films. After 1948, he started appearing in movies made for television and, later, in sitcoms. He appeared in 18 episodes of the TV series "Compact" in the 1964 season. He continued with stage and radio. In 1975, Hulbert published his autobiography, "The Little Woman's Always Right." He was married to the actress Dame Cicely Courtneidge and the brother of actor Claude Hulbert. He died from the complication of aging.
